There have been thefts at the base. Sgt. Carter picks a guard detail including goof-up Pyle. On guard duty, Pyle calls out Carter three times to "investigate" a stray cat, his own shadow, and a US Marine Corps CID Criminal Investigator (played by Ken Lynch). When the crooks drive up to the warehouse, Pyle thinks they're legitimate, and even helps them load the truck! By accident, both Pyle and Carter get trapped in the truck and Carter gets knocked out cold. Pyle captures the thieves, locks them in the truck, and drives back to base without even opening the warehouse door! Carter gets a commendation, but has to ask Pyle "What happened?"
