Summary[]
Andy makes an earnest attempt at matchmaking to help Barney win the heart of his girlfriend, Thelma Lou. Things go fine at first... until Barney misinterprets Andy's efforts and thinks he's trying to steal her away!
Plot[]
Andy is caught in the middle of a misunderstanding between Barney and Thelma Lou. The victim of Thelma Lou's scheme to make Barney jealous, Andy is cast as a rival for Thelma Lou's affections. Andy finally manages to work his way out of the mess, with Ellie's help and brings the two lovebirds back together.

- This is the first appearance of Barney's steady girlfriend, Thelma Lou. (Her last name is never mentioned until season 6, episode 17 “The Return of Barney Fife,” when Thelma Lou shows up at the class reunion married to Gerald Whitfield).
- This episode began filming on January 9, 1961, the same day "The Horse Trader" premiered
- This is the first mention of the never-seen character of Juanita Beasley. ***UPDATE*** The original poster is WRONG! The first mention of Juanita Beasley is in Season 1, episode 28 “Andy Forecloses.”
- The title is based on Hector Savinien de Cyrano de Bergerac a French dramatist and duelist who is now best remembered for an overly large nose described in Edmond Rostand's play based on this life.
- This is Ellie's only appearance with Thelma Lou.
