Summary[]
A hobo gets Opie and his friends to provide him with food, by trying to convince them that he's disabled. When Andy becomes aware of the situation the boys find out the harsh truth.
Plot[]
Opie plays Robin Hood to his own Sherwood Forest gang and gets involved in stealing from the "rich" Mayberry citizens to feed the "poor" hobo whom the gang meets in the woods. Andy goes out to meet their new friend to prove to Opie and the others that Andy is a good sheriff and that The hobo has been taking advantage of the kids' good intentions.

- Opie and his pals state they all watched Robin Hood on television. They could be referring to the 1938 film Adventures of Robin Hood starring high-flying (and tight wearing) Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland which many today feel is still the best adaptation. The film won three Academy Awards. They could also be referring to the popular TV series "The Adventures of Robin Hood" which ran from 1955-1960 starring Richard Greene as the titular hero. The British-based half-hour series comprised 143 episodes and was syndicated in the United States. The show premiered in the U.S. on CBS Monday, September 26, 1955.
- Weary Willie's reference to his fracture of the "Petulla Obondalla" (bum leg) was a mispronunciation of the "Medulla Oblongata" which, as Barney correctly points out, is not in the leg but a part of the brain.
- Weary Willie says that he didn't want any credit for "saving" that baby, but when he tells Opie that the baby was a Manager of a Grocery Store, he says that the man hadn't thanked him.
