Summary[]

Barney and Thelma Lou have an argument that leads to a comical parade of arguments between Andy, Barney, Thelma Lou, and Helen.

Plot[]

Barney and Thelma Lou break up and it appears for good. In an effort to console Barney, Andy gets in hot water when Barney misrepresents his words to Thelma Lou. The harder they try to work things out, the worse it gets.

Notes/Trivia[]

  • This is the only episode where Thelma Lou's occupation is hinted at. When Barney is trying to get her and Helen to reconcile, she says, "I have to get back to the office.” She also claims to have dropped everything and left the office, suggesting that she has some freedom in her job.
  • The scene at the beginning that shows Helen and Andy walking in front of the courthouse before Barney barges between them, the music playing will eventually be the theme song for the spin-off series Mayberry R.F.D. This is called the Mayberry March and has been used frequently on the show since the first season.
  • Barney mentioned that he's dated Thelma Lou for five years.

  • When Barney picks up Andy they film the scene in the car with the driver's door open.
