Summary[]

Andy poses for a picture with a Hollywood starlet and his romance with Helen is jolted when it appears in the Mayberry paper.

Plot[]

[Re-write] Andy is pressured into posing for publicity photos with the attractive actress Darlene Mason. It's all part of a public relations campaign but photos of Andy and Darlene make the front page of the Mayberry Gazette and Helen Crump is none too pleased. When Andy calls her to say hello, she lets him know just what she thinks of it all. Frustrated, he gives Darlene a call and they go out on a date. Feeling guilty about the call, Helen calls only to speak to Opie who tells her his Dad is over at Darlene Mason's apartment and would likely be home late.

Notes/Trivia[]

  • Darlene Mason asks Andy if he's ever had escargot, to which he replies, "No, but I'll try anything once." However, that is only partly correct, since Peggy McMillan ordered them for him in "Andy's Rich Girlfriend" (Season 3Episode 2) but he decided not to try them.
  • This is the third episode in the Hollywood arc, the second to feature scenes from Hollywood, as well as the last episode filmed that way.
  • Andy calls Helen long-distance and gives her number as 2389.
  • This is Ruta Lee's second appearance on the show. She was Jean Boswell the reporter in the "Andy on Trial" episode.
