The New Andy Griffith Show was an American sitcom starring Andy Griffith. The show only lasted one season (ten episodes) until it was canceled alongside Mayberry R.F.D. by CBS in the rural purge of 1971.

Synopsis/Comparisons to The Andy Griffith Show:[]
Despite some similarities in the two series, The New Andy Griffith Show is not canon to the original Andy Griffith Show, either of its spin-offs, or its 1986 TV-reunion film. In the new show, Griffith plays a new character named Andy Sawyer, instead of reprising as Andy Taylor. Despite this, his character is very similar to Andy Taylor, as well as Griffith's character from the 1958 film film No Time for Sergeants. Andy Sawyer is the Mayor, rather than Sheriff, of Greenwood North Carolina, a fictitious city with a population of about 13,000, significantly larger than Mayberry (which has a population of 5,3,60 based on a sign in the series finale). While Andy Taylor is a widowed father of only one son in The Andy Griffith Show (two with the welcoming of Andy Jr in Mayberry R.F.D), Sawyer is married and has two children, one son and one daughter, named T.J. and Lori.
The show also featured cameo appearances by George Lindsey and Paul Hartman who play "Goober" and "Emmett", respectively, their characters from The Andy Griffith Show and Mayberry R.F.D. Don Knotts also appears as an unnamed character, but is identical to the character Barney Fife. All three are referred to as an "old friends" of Andy Sawyer.
Due to the show's similarities to The Andy Griffith Show, it could be assumed that The New Andy Griffith Show is a reboot/remake of The Andy Griffith Show.
