Summary[]
Andy must make a hasty, ill-advised marriage proposal to Ellie Walker after he comes convinced that the new, handsome young doctor in town is trying to steal his girl.
Plot[]
After a considerable amount of prodding from Barney, Andy's suspicions are aroused when
Ellie seems to be spending a lot of time with Mayberry's new Doctor. The inevitable relationship between the town doctor and the town druggist doesn't quite sit well with Andy. After joining Andy and Ellie on their date, Barney decides to get to the bottom of the situation. His attention is quickly sidetracked when the new doctor diagnoses Barn with a vitamin deficiency. Determined to fight for his girl, Andy inadvertently proposes to Ellie. He then discovers that the new doctor is engaged to be married. Ellie lets Andy off the hook, and they both agree to proceed slowly in their relationship.
Notes/Trivia[]
- Although Dr. Benson moves to Mayberry and plans on settling there, he is never seen or heard from again.
- Andy makes mention of a band called Bobby Fleet and his Band with a Beat. This was the band that Jim Lindsey, played by James Best, left town with in the third episode "The Guitar Player.” They would return later in Season 1 in "The Guitar Player Returns,” and they appeared as Freddy Fleet's band in the Season 3 Episode, The Mayberry Band.
- This marks the first time Andy says the phrase, "Yeah boy."
- Barney almost gets run over by a '59 Chevy.
- Barney's medical issues are never addressed again.
Goofs[]
- When Dr. Bennet leaves/retires in Season 7 it's said he's been in Mayberry for 40 years. Did they really have more than one doctor?
- When Barney rushes out of the Drug Store after eavesdropping he pulls the door bell off and drops it on the floor, but when Andy returns a few minutes later the bell is back in place on the door.
